Do you even MUSIC?

There is a Darkrose Novel playlist. It has hours of songs, pushing 16 hours of it at the moment. There has always been one over the years, so does it help?

I find that when writing emotional scenes, it is good to have some sad music playing or songs that are about variations of the subject matter the characters are up against. I’ve heard many authors say that they can see their stories in movie-format when they are writing and we all know that if you are in the cinema watching a scene that has a sad goodbye like…when Mufasa dies or when Bambi’s mother is shot, it gets you right in the feels because they’ve always got to add that depressing music. Would I be sitting near my friend pretending I have something in my eye if there was silence in those scenes? I dunno, maybe. But you get my point, right?

Action scenes, likewise.  For me, it’s nice to have some old industrial, metal, aggrotech, dubstep or electro. I like a good progressive sound that you can march to, while carrying a giant firearm. ;D

But the scenes have to stand up in the silence after. You don’t know if someone is going to be reading or listening to your book on the train or while cleaning their house or at work.

If I write a scene with tunes on in the background, it is usually to write in a stream of consciousness and then edit ruthlessly/fine tune later.

Atm, I am roughly editing a rather intense scene involving guns, veiled threats and whisky. *my favourite kind.

I think I may share some of that colossal playlist I have from time to time.

What is playing right now?
